SPRINGFIELD – Over the river and through the woods could mean riding the rails.
“We’re adding additional service to downstate Illinois,” said Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari, “both the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after.”
Magliari says last year Sunday was busier than Wednesday that weekend. The extra service is on the Illinois Zephyr and Carl Sandburg, connecting Quincy and Macomb to Chicago, and on the Lincoln Service only as far south as Bloomington-Normal, which Magliari said is Amtrak’s busiest downstate Illinois station.
