Illinois Wesleyan defeats No. 25 Texas Lutheran

SAN ANTONIO – The Illinois Wesleyan men’s basketball team battled the No. 25 Texas Lutheran Bulldogs back-and-forth and came out on top 92-86 at the Trinity Tournament in San Antonio, Texas.

Senior Bryce Dolan led the Titans with 19 points. Junior Andy Stempel added 16 points, five rebounds and six assists.

The lead changed nine times in the first half and Illinois Wesleyan went into halftime down 40-38. The Titans took the lead back immediately after the second half started and led by as many as 13, but the Bulldogs hung around with help from Sterling Holmes. He led Texas Lutheran with 27 points, 20 of which came in the second half.

The Titans went on a 13-2 run after Texas Lutheran took its final lead of the game with 6:25 left but the Bulldogs hung around late with several three-pointers, mostly from Holmes before he fouled out.

Illinois Wesleyan’s next game is Dec. 30 on the road against the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
