UPDATED: Bloomington crews battle early morning garage fire

BLOOMINGTON – Fire crews say an early-morning blaze to an attached garage at 513 Vale St. caused about $20,000 in damages.

The Bloomington Fire Department was called to the home at 3:52 a.m. Officials say the blaze started in a garage that is attached to the two-story home.

Two adults and two children who live there were outside at the time the first fire unit arrived on scene. Crews extinguished the fire in about 30 minutes. There was heavy fire damage to the garage and smoke, water and minor fire damage to the home.

Police closed several blocks of Oakland Avenue for several hours while crews battled the fire. Police said just before 7 a.m. the road was reopened.

there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Normal Fire Department was also dispatched to assist. The Red Cross was notified to assist the family.
