Holiday trash, bus schedule

Garbage and recycle will be collected on Christmas Eve in Bloomington and Normal but there will be no collections on Christmas Day.

In Bloomington, garbage and recycle normally collected that day will be collected on Monday along with the normal Monday route. Christmas trees can be placed at the curb for collection beginning on Tuesday. Trees must have all lights, ornaments, tree stands and bags removed.

Bloomington’s drop-off facility will be closed Dec . 24-28, reopening on Tuesday. Bulk waste will also not be collected on these days.

In Normal, Friday’s household waste and recycling will be collected on Monday, December 28. Bulky waste and brush may be collected for Friday’s route the following week, as time permits. Bulky waste and brush will not be collected on Christmas Eve. Bulky waste and brush may be collected for Thursday’s route the following week, as time permits.

Christmas trees will be collected by the brush crews. Normal Public Works crews ask that Christmas trees be placed at the curb minus all metal objects and plastic bags after 6 p.m. on the day before your regular collection day or prior to 6 a.m. on the day of collection.

Normal’s landscape waste collection will end on Dec. 31 and will resume approximately April 4, 2016. Residents who have leaves or other vegetation to dispose of (no woody materials) may bring them to the Public Works landscape waste drop site at 1301 Warriner Street.

Connect Transit

All Connect Transit bus routes will end service at 7 p.m. Thursday. Last reservations for Connect Mobility service will be available from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Connect Transit office will be closed for business on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Connect Transit services will not operate on Friday.
