MILWAUKEE – Illinois Wesleyan held an All-American in check but several of his teammates gave All-American performances in the  Titans’ 89-69 loss to the Milwaukee School of Engineering at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (5-4) raced out to a 48-35 halftime lead on the strength of 65 percent field goal shooting, including eight of 12 from three-point range. The Titans (6-5) drew no closer than 10 points in the second half as IWU’s defense problems resurfaced.

Preseason All-American Austin Steuck scored 14 for MSOE while reserve Max Wojcik scored 23 points on nine of nine shooting from the field.

Trevor Seibring led IWU with 15 points and nine rebounds. Bryce Dolan added 14.

The Titans defeated MSOE in the only previous meeting, 97-63, at Shirk Center in Nov. 2014.

Wesleyan opens CCIW play at Elmhurst on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
