NORMAL – For the fifth straight year and 21st out of 23 tournaments, Bloomington has earned the Intercity wrestling title.
Purple Raiders coach Mark Gardner says his team went through ups and downs during Wednesday’s meet at Normal Community High School. “We’ve been working on some new things and some of those kids are starting to get it,” said Gardner. “At the turn of the season at the halfway point, we weren’t in the best shape but we don’t strive to be in really great shape now as we’re trying to peak at the right time.”
The No. 7-state ranked Purple Raiders improved to 8-3 by downing NCHS, 62-15, Normal West, 44-27 and University High, 62-16.
The runner-up Ironmen (10-6) topped West 39-31, and U High, 43-30. Third-place West (6-8) won, 41-27, over U High (8-13).
