Titans use balanced attack to top Carthage

BLOOMINGTON – Alec Bausch led five Titans in double figures with 16 points as Illinois Wesleyan defeated Carthage, 78-52, at Shirk Center on Saturday.

Andy Stempel scored the game’s first eight points as Illinois Wesleyan built an early lead. The Redmen rallied and led for a brief time in the first half, before Wesleyan closed out the half on a 21-12 run to lead, 36-29, at the break.

IWU continued the onslaught early in the second half against the undersized Redmen, outscoring Carthage 33-14 in the first 12 minutes of the second half.

Joel Pennington connected on four second-half three-pointers to finish with 14 points. Trevor Seibring posted 11 points while Ryan Coyle and Stempel both scored 10. Coyle added a team-high nine rebounds.

The Titans improve to 2-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, 8-6 overall. Carthage drops to 7-7, 1-2 in the CCIW.

The Titan women controlled from the start in a 76-54 win over Carthage at Shirk Center. Wesleyan (7-7, 2-1 in CCIW) was led in scoring by Molly McGraw’s 22 points.
