Four write-in candidates file for McLean County’s 2nd District seat

BLOOMINGTON – There are now four write-in candidates running for McLean County’s 2nd District.

Conservative blogger Diane Benjamin of Ellsworth and Garth Nicholas of Heyworth registered Thursday before the 4:30 p.m. filing deadline.

They join two other write-in candidates – Mike Sumner and Scott Murphy, both of Downs – who filed Wednesday.

Former McLean County Board Chairman Matt Sorensen’s name will be the only name that actually appears on the March primary ballot for District 2.

He resigned from the board a week after being indicted on federal wire fraud charges, but he did not remove his name from the March primary ballot
