NORMAL – Normal Community High School is looking for a new athletic director.
Andy Turner is leaving to take the same job at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, about 15 miles outside of Chicago.
Unit 5 superintendent Mark Daniel said Turner built a quality program in the 11 years since he took over Normal Community’s athletic department.
“I think that starts with great leadership and that goes then to their coaching staff and of course to the players and the parents,” Daniel said. “We’re going to miss Andy, no doubt about it. We appreciate all his professionalism and the time he’s given to our students and our families and we wish him the best.”
The Ironmen won a Class 6A state football title in 2006 and a Class AA state softball title in 2007. The Ironmen also finished as runner-ups in football in 2005, boys soccer in 2014 and boys basketball in 2015.
Turner also went 77-33 as head coach of the school’s baseball team from 2002 to 2005. He will stay with Normal Community until the school year ends.
