In this election year, we are hearing a lot of noise on the campaign trail. Much is being said by the candidates, past candidates, future candidates, the media and so many others. CNN has had so many breaking news items that I am about ready to break my television to stop hearing the same voices over and over again. But I have not done that yet, because in reality the only voice that matters are yours and mine.
No we are not sitting in the news room at CNN, FOX, MSNBC, CBS or any of the other big news outlets, being interviewed as “experts” but we are the voice of the people and at the end of the day that is what is important. We hold the vote and that is our voice. Therefore, we must get out and vote!
As a Black American, there was a time when I did not appreciate what the privilege of voting really meant. Of course, I complained about what was happening in my country, state and community when something occurred that I did not agree with. Complaining was my voice but at the end of the day, I had not accomplished anything except turning myself into an apathetic citizen who did not continue the fight that my ancestors were a part of and which many people died for… that is, the right to vote.
If we as citizens of this country do not get out and vote, I fear that our country will change in a way that we will all regret, regardless of what political party we align ourselves with. I urge you to listen to the voices, the debates, and the interviews the candidates are giving. Research them and see what they really stand for at the end of the day. Get to know each of them for who they truly are, not who they portray themselves as when running for an office. Just remember that at the end of the day, the ONLY voice that matters is yours and mine, but we must get out and vote. In addition, please encourage and assist others in getting out to cast their vote. Your voice is powerful……
