BLOOMINGTON – Illinois Wesleyan junior Trevor Seibring is the lone Titan representative on the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin men’s basketball all-star squads, earning second team honors in voting  by league coaches on Monday.

A 6-foot-8 forward, Seibring was seventh in the league in scoring with 14.6 points and ninth in rebounds at 6.1 per game. His field goal percentage of .612 was fourth best in CCIW play.

The Titans, who were 7-7 in the CCIW and 13-12 overall, led the conference in 3-point field goal accuracy with a .392 mark and was second in the league in field goal percentage (47.9).

Illinois Wesleyan is the No. 4 seed in the 2016 CCIW postseason tournament and plays No. 1 seed Augustana (24-1, 13-1 CCIW) in the second game at 7 p.m. on Friday, hosted by the Vikings in Rock Island. In the first game of the evening, No. 2 seed North Central will face Elmhurst at 5 p.m. with Friday’s winners squaring off at 7 p.m. Saturday for the NCAA Division III automatic bid.

For the second straight year, Augustana’s Hunter Hill is the winner of the Fred Young Most Outstanding Player award and Augustana’s Grey Giovanine was tabbed Coach of the Year.

The player award is named for 1915 IWU graduate Fred Young, who was the conference’s first commissioner and served in the position for 17 years. He was a longtime sports editor of The Pantagraph and starred at IWU in basketball, baseball and tennis. The former fieldhouse at Illinois Wesleyan was named in his honor.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
