Duckworth, Kirk win U.S. Senate primaries

CHICAGO – U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Chicago) have won the primaries for U.S. Senate.

Duckworth defeated Andrea Zopp and Napoleon Harris on the Democratic side and will face the incumbed Kirk in the General Election.

Duckworth said if she’s elected to the Senate, she’ll work on issues dealing with education.

“I’m pushing very hard to try to make college more affordable,” said Duckworth. “Whether it is a technical school, whether it is community college or a four year degree program.”

Kirk beat James Marter on the Republican ticket.
