ISU gridders go through Pro Day

NORMAL – All in all, things went well Wednesday for Illinois State linebacker David Perkins at a NFL Pro Day at Illinois State’s Hancock Stadium.

“Things went real good,” he said, “I got some nice times posted and I feel like I answered some questions as far as my athleticism, so it went smooth.”

Perkins was among a dozen players, including seven from ISU, two from Illinois Wesleyan, two from Eastern Illinois and one from Knox College, who worked out for scouts from the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts.

“The way it looks there are a lot of teams that like me,” added Perkins. “This is the NFL and it’s a business, so you never know how anything is going to go even on draft day. There are definitely teams that like me enough, but we just have to wait and see.”

Perkins was joined in the two-hour workout that included running, jumping and weights by former teammates Teddy Corwin and Collin Keoshian (defensive linemen); Marshaun Coprich (running back); Josh Burch (defensive back); Lechein Niblett (receiver) and quarterback-turned defensive back Tre Roberson.

“I thought it went really well,” said Corwin. “I improved on everything I needed to improve on. I think my times are a little bit better from my first Pro Day (at Northwestern), so I’m happy. I thought I had a very good day.”

Also participating in the drills were defensive back Tyrell Boldin and receiver Artie Checchin.
