BLOOMINGTON – A rare breed of goat at the Miller Park Zoo is the latest animal to give birth at the facility.
One of the zoo’s San Clemente Goats recently gave birth two kids – one male and one female.
The births are significant, not only because they are a critically rare breed, but because the zoo traded breeding males with a ranch in Texas to acquire their father. The father is from the rarest bloodline found in San Clemente Island Goats.
The goats are listed as a critically endangered heritage breed. Their global population is around 600.
