NCHS’ Grimes to retire as softball coach

NORMAL – Normal Community High School softball coach Bob Grimes will be retiring at the end of the 2016 softball season.

The school plans to honor Grimes between games of the Bob Grimes Ironmen Classic on May 21 at the NCHS softball fields. The ceremony to honor Grimes will start at approximately at 11:00. Former players and coaches who have been part of the program will be in attendance.

During the coach Grimes’ era over the past 14 years, the Ironmen softball teams have won more than 400 games. He has guided the Ironmen softball team to nine Big 12 Conference Championships, nine IHSA Regional Championships, three IHSA Sectional Championships, three IHSA State Final appearances, an IHSA Runner-Up finish in 2002 and an IHSA State Championship in 2007.

Grimes has also been selected by the Illinois Coaches Association as Coach of the Year.
