Salvation Army opens addition

BLOOMINGTON- The Salvation Army of McLean County has expanded in Bloomington-Normal, with a new Emergency Assistance Office connected to their offices in Bloomington.

Captain Paul James with the Salvation Army says multiple groups and projects will be able to utililize the space. “Our food pantry along with our emergency assistance program (will be housed here.)” James said. “Also our rent and utility assistance and the Pathway to hope program.”

The new office was made possible from an estate donation of more than $800,000 from Michael and Ethel S. Conran. “The thoughtfulness of this family to plan ahead and support the Salvation Army is going to make an impact on the community.” James said.

The new storage space will allow the Salvation Army to free up space at the gym, as well as the Safe Harbor shelter.

Captain James says the new office is phase one of four long-term plans for the Salvation Army, including building a new gymnasium, new chapel, and demolition of the current chapel.
