BLOOMINGTON – It’s high school prom season and with that comes the possibility of underage drinking.
Normal Police Sgt. Adam Capchinske told WJBC’s Dan Swaney when it comes to drinking; the parents really set the standard.
“The kids are looking at their behavior, their attitudes towards alcohol – underage drinking,” said Capchinske. “If the parents condone it, the kids automatically in their head, they’re going to see it as OK.”
Liz Hamilton with BN Parents said it’s always a good idea to talk with your son or daughter about what their plans are for prom night.
“Make sure that they know if they are going to after prom, if they’re not going to after prom,” said Hamilton. “Have a conversation with the parents who may be having an after prom party for them, to ensure that there is not going to be alcohol there.”
Hamilton added it’s a good plan to be awake when you child gets back home, or to make sure and have them wake you up.
