Robert “Bob” Allen Shaffer, 67, of Eureka, passed away May 1 at 3:08 a.m. in his home.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday at the Waynesville United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will follow the visitation with Pastor Dave Steinbeck officiating. Internment will be held at the Rock Creek Cemetery, Waynesville.

Memorials may be made to the Crosspoint Community Church, Eureka, or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.

Bob was born on May 31, 1948, in Clinton, the son of Emmett Raymond and Betty Imogene Higgins Shaffer. He married Delores June Arbogast on July 15, 1978, in Danvers.

Bob is survived by his mother, Betty (Rob) Roy of Eureka, his wife Delores and their children, Steven Paul (Julie) Shaffer of Bloomington and Wendy

(Jason) Bachman of Eureka; five grandchildren, Jacob, Jett and Justis Bachman, Samantha and Annabelle Shaffer.  Also surviving are his brothers, David (Martha) Shaffer of Maynard, Ariz., Greg (Evelyn) Shaffer of Flagler, Colo.; sisters, Connie (Wayne) Fisher of Shelbyville, Elizabeth (Bob) Mylott of Gilbert, Ariz., Janice (Mark) Nevius of McLean, and Ginger Bartz of Sierra Vista, Ariz..

He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Pamela Rosenthal.

He attended Crosspoint Community Church in Eureka.  Bob had previously attended Waynesville UMC and 1st Presbyterian Church in Danvers and was a member of the Danvers Lions Club.

Bob grew up on a farm in the Waynesville area where he raised pigs and would show them for 4-H at the fairgrounds. He was a graduate of the McLean/Waynesville High School class of 1966 and received his Bachelors and Master’s degrees from Illinois State University.

Bob taught agriculture and science at Parkside Junior High School in Normal for 29 years. Prior to teaching at Parkside he taught at Robein Junior High School in East Peoria, for four years. Bob was a dedicated teacher who loved educating middle school children.

Bob was a hard worker and loved working on his farm in East Peoria.

Along with his nephew and great nephews, he cleared the land and made a pond and grew mostly beans on the farm.  In addition, Bob had a passion for buying homes deemed “Fixer Uppers”. He loved remodeling them and renting them.

Above all else, Bob was dedicated to his family. He took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Pops”.

Bob will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
