NORMAL – A memorial to those missing in action while serving their country was dedicated Saturday at the Corn Crib.
An empty black chair next to a plaque honoring all POWs and MIAs has been installed next to the press box at the Corn Crib.
CornBelters assistant general manager Jeff Holtke (HOLT-kee) said the Rolling Thunder national organization has provided similar empty chair memorials at stadiums across the country, including in Southern Illinois where he once worked.
“I stopped down there as I was passing through back from the winter meetings and I was actually showing one of the other staff members around the ball park and came across the chair and instantly thought we need to have this at the Corn Crib and that’s when it all began,” said Holtke.
The POW/MIA chair was dedicated before Saturday’s CornBelters game.
