BLOOMINGTON – An annual fundraiser in McLean County is retooling in hopes of getting a record turnout this year.

The renamed McLean County Golf Classic for St. Jude will held in late June, this year in back-to-back days. For the men it will be on the June 20 and the women will play on the 21st at Crestwicke Country Club in Bloomington.

Committee chair Jennifer Wilkes told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin that’s not all that’s new.

“We’ve got almost an entirely new committee,” Wilkes said. “We’ve got a few members that have been on this before and a few helping in the background but we’ve got a lot of new people that are bringing new sponsors, new food and new auction items.”

Registration has been extended through Sunday.

Wikes said the goal is to raise $100,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Registration can be done via message on Facebook or by email at [email protected] or at St.Jude.org/McLeangolfclassic.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
