CornBelters’ Haupt named Frontier League Player of the Week

NORMAL – The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, have the season’s first Frontier League Player of the Week as left fielder Dillon Haupt has received the opening award.

Haupt hit safely in all three CornBelters games to start the season, including two doubles, a home run and eight runs batted in. He carries the team’s best batting average of .417. Haupt, 25, joins the Belters this season after spending 2015 with the Frontier Greys. The San Diego native was drafted by the White Sox out of the University of San  Diego in the 20th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

The CornBelters continue the season-opening home stand on Tuesday with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch against the Evansville Otters. Right-hander Jake Negrete starts on the mound for the Belters. Tuesday is Busey Bank Kids Night with half-price box seats for those 12 and under for only $6, plus kids can run the bases after the game. Wednesday is Education Day with a special start time of 10 a.m. All CornBelters games can be heard on WJBC.com.
