UPDATED: Lawmakers adjourn, will return to work Thursday

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Senate and House adjourned Wednesday without voting on a stopgap budget or funding for education.

Gov. Bruce Rauner and legislative leaders met for most of the day as they tried to negotiate a deal for both measures.

Some legislators will meet in committee Wednesday. Lawmakers will then meeting in caucuses Thursday morning before returning to session to “attempt to complete our work,” according to State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie).

Thursday is the last day of the fiscal year.
