PHILADELPHIA – As democrats assembled at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this week, those from Illinois spent plenty of time trying to figure out who might be willing to run for governor.

The rumor mill has churned out the name of U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin in the past. The long serving senior senator is fairly quick to dismiss the conversation.

“I’ve got a full-time job and I’m glad to have it,” Durbin quipped. “If I’ve got any skills they are in Washington trying to bring money back to Illinois. I have no plans to run for governor. I say to all those people who want to know what’s going to happen 30 months from now, ‘Where are you going to be 30 months from now?’ ”

For the now the potential list of Democratic challengers for governor is just that a list of potential names.

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
