BLOOMINGTON – Tickets are now available for the Red Cross Saluting Our Heroes Breakfast.

It is scheduled for Nov. 9 at 7:30 a.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in Bloomington. This event is a celebration of our local heroes who have displayed extraordinary acts of courage and kindness. WJBC will also announce its Don Munson Spirit of McLean County Award.

The event supports the Red Cross and helps to provide critical services including disaster response, support for our military members and their families and community preparedness education.

“Heroes are ordinary people, who make themselves extraordinary through their selfless acts of kindness and determination to serve their community. These local heroes go above and beyond to help others and have made a tremendous impact on the community,” said Lyn Hruska, Regional Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Central and Southern Illinois Region. “Their actions have directly aligned with the values of the American Red Cross. It is an honor to bring recognition to the numerous accomplishments of our local heroes and inspire others through sharing their stories”.

An individual ticket for the event is $35, a Red Cross Hero ticket is $150, and a Bronze Sponsorship, which includes a table of ten and name recognition in the program is $500. Tickets are available at www.redcross.org/salutingourheroestickets or by phone at (309)-662-0500, by mail, or in person at American Red Cross, One Westport Court, Bloomington, IL 61704. Checks should be made payable to American Red Cross with “Saluting our Heroes Breakfast” in the memo section.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
