BLOOMINGTON – Hopeful 13th district congressional Independent candidate David Gill is taking his fight to be on the November ballot to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Bloomington doctor told WJBC’s Terry James he is filing an appeal first thing Friday morning with Supreme Court Judge Elena Kagan. He believed the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals made an error in saying he can’t be on the ballot.
“I think it’s still a fight that’s worth fighting,” said Gill. “Corrections can be made. If ballots come in that don’t have my name on it, they can hand new ballots out to those individuals. It’s not outside the realm of possibility.”
Courts have said Gill fell 2,000 signatures short of the requirement to be on the ballot as an Independent. Incumbent Republican Rodney Davis and Democrat Mark Wicklund only needed about 740 signatures because they are associated with a major party.
