Shoemaker-Gilmore delivers in IWU rout of Augie

BLOOMINGTON – Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore asked his coach Norm Eash for a great role in the offense after getting just 11 carries in the Titans’ loss to Wheaton last week.

“That’s pretty bold, but I asked him to back it up and he did,” Eash declared.

The senior transfer from Central Michigan delivered by rushing for 212 yards on 26 carries and scoring three touchdowns in Illinois Wesleyan’s 42-6 rout of Augustana in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin contest at Tucci Stadium.

Two of Shoemaker-Gilmore’s touchdowns came on receptions. He caught a 6-yard pass from Brandon Bauer early in the first quarter after a Brinton Wilkey Jr. interception to open the scoring. he later ran a reverse with Mitch Pfeiffer and was on the receiving end of a 22-year scoring toss from Pfeiffer to race out to a 21-0 first half lead.

Sophomore Trevor Staley helped put the game out of reach with a 48-yard interception return for a score in the third period. Wilkey would add a second interception in the fourth half.

Bauer completed 10 of 20 passes for 116 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.

Gilmore became the 14th player in Titan history to rush for 200 yards in a game.

Wesleyan improved to 3-2, 2-2 in the CCIW. Augie fell to 2-4, 1-3.

The Titans visit Carroll next Saturday.
