BLOOMINGTON – The most common cuts of pork are 16 percent leaner than they were 20 years ago.

So says Illinois Pork Producers Spokeswoman Morgan Booth. October is pork month.

“Illinois is the 4th ranked state in the country for pork production,” said Booth. “And we’re up there with corn and soybeans as well. Pork production not only affects pork farmers, but corn and soybean farmers and also the economy. It brings so many jobs and contributes $1.8 billion to the Illinois economy annually.”

Booth says you can text the word pork to 43817 to play a lottery like scratch game on your smart phone for a chance to win free pork.

You can win bacon, pork loin, or a tailgating package.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
