GOP strategist: Trump’s strong debate start turned sour after ‘nasty’ remark

CHICAGO – Donald Trump’s apparent unwillingness to accept the results of the presidential election, a stance he reiterated during Wednesday’s debate, ruined what was otherwise his best debate performance to this point, according to former Illinois Republican Party chairman Pat Brady.

“What he did will be the story probably for decades to come,” Brady said. “The hallmark of democracy is the peaceful transition of power and when a major party nominee says he will not accept the election results, he’s undermining the integrity of our processes and it’s ever happened before.”

Brady told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin Trump referring to Hillary Clinton as a ‘nasty’ woman will backfire.

“That’s not a word you should use,” Brady declared.

Brady added Clinton seemed more prepared for the debate as Trump failed to pounce on the WikiLeaks documents and Clinton’s previous comment about an open border trade policy.

“He really could have scored some points, but he didn’t do it because he wasn’t prepared,” Brady said. “Whereas you could tell (Clinton) was prepared.”

A CBS poll shows Clinton won the final debate in the presidential race.

Brady added he’s concerned that if Trump turns off too many voters, it could cost the Republican Party control of the Senate, where Mark Kirk is in a tough reelection bid.
