KENOSHA, Wis. – It wasn’t quite as dramatic as last year’s win at Carthage, but it will do.
After rallying for two scores in the final 1:19 of a 21-17 win last season, the Titans marched 86 yards in a late game-winning drive to send the Red Men to defeat, 19-14, in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game at Art Keller Field.
POSTGAME: Listen to the postgame interview with IWU coach Norm Eash.
IWU trailed 14-0 early in the second quarter after a 25-year touchdown pass from Ethan Olles to Jamahl Wright. Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore scored on touchdown runs of 56 and 4 yards to bring IWU within 14-13 early in the third as Andrew Iwaskiewicz missed the game-tying extra point.
Brandon Bauer connected with Quincy Butler on a four-yard rollout with 50 seconds remaining to give IWU its first lead of the game, shortly after Carthage was called for pass interference on a fourth down play with 1:08 on the clock.
Carthage (5-2, 3-2 in the CCIW) marched to the 13-yard line before Olles’ pass to the end zone fell incomplete.
Shoemaker-Gilmore finished with 161 yards on 33 carries. Bauer completed 16 of 27 passes for 131 yards.
The Titans (5-2, 4-2 in the CCIW) host Elmhurst on Oct. 29.
