Shoemaker-Gilmore wins CCIW honor

BLOOMINGTON – For the second time this season, Illinois Wesleyan senior running back Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin “Offensive Football Player of the Week.”

Shoemaker-Gilmore (Kankakee, Ill., Bishop McNamara HS) helped the Titans to a 19-14 win over Carthage on Saturday. He ran for 161 yards on 33 carries and had touchdown runs of 56 and four yards. The 33 carries is tied for eighth most in an IWU single game.

Shoemaker-Gilmore now has 905 yards (156 carries) and is No. 8 in an IWU season, 174 yards short of the record of 1,079 by Kurt Swearingen on 223 carries in 1977. With 1,773 career yards, Shoemaker-Gilmore is No. 11 all-time at IWU.

He is the CCIW rushing leader with 130.8 yards per game in six league outings and also leads the conference in all purpose yards (201.2 per game), kickoff return yards (26.2 per return) and scoring (11.0 points per game).

A business administration major at Illinois Wesleyan, Shoemaker-Gilmore is the son of Laurie Gilmore and Pat Gilmore.
