SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Comptroller Leslie Munger is responding to criticism from opponent Susana Mendoza when it comes to Munger’s office cutting paychecks that include bonuses.

Gov. Bruce Rauner awarded bonuses to merit comp employees who hadn’t had seen raises in sometime. While Mendoza criticized her for cutting the checks with the bonuses included, Munger said her lack of options was clear.

“When agencies send the payroll through, there’s no distinction between salary and bonuses,” Munger said. “They come in in one payroll page and we are bound under court order to process that under a certain timetable.”

Munger continues to avoid expressing support or opposition to Donald Trump.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
