CHICAGO – Democrat Tammy Duckworth defeated U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) Tuesday to claim his seat.
Duckworth is promising to continue to fight for the middle class.
“We showed that a relentless focus on rebuilding the middle class and respecting hard work rather than wealth can be successful too,” Duckworth told supporters at an Election Night rally.
Kirk called Duckworth to conceded the race.
“I told Tammy that I would do everything possible to make sure that Illinois has the strongest possible representation in the United States Senate,” Kirk said.
Kirk invited Duckworth to meet Friday in Chicago for a beer summit.
