SPRINGFIELD – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin won’t be swapping Capitol Hill for the Statehouse anytime soon.
On Wednesday, Durbin was elected to another term as the number two Democrat in the Senate and Durbin says that’s where he will stay, stating more firmly than ever he has no intention of running against Republican Bruce Rauner for governor in 2018. Durbin recently rejected talk of making a run for the state’s chief executive job.
“I’ve not encouraged that, Durbin said. “Loretta and I like what we have now, living in Springfield, drinking a glass of wine on the back deck and coming home on the weekends.”
Durbin said the election of Republican Donald Trump as President helped him reject talk of a run for state office.
