Senate overrides Rauner on voting registration veto

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Senate has overridden the governor’s veto of automatic voter registration.

The move will now send the House the chance to override the veto at the end of the month. The bill would have allowed citizens doing business with a number of state agencies to be automatically registered to vote unless they chose not to.

Gov, Brunce Rauner cited the fear of voting fraud for the reasons behind the veto although he has pledged support for finding ways to increase voter registration.
