BLOOMINGTON- A run you could say lasted an entire half propelled the Illinois Wesleyan Titans to a 85-64 win over Loras College Saturday night. The win gave the Titans the Frontier Communication Titan Tip-Off Tournament Championship.

Illinois Wesleyan beat the Duhawks at their own game in the early going, drilling a three-pointer on each of their first three possessions to go up 9-0.

Loras had been averaging over 108 points per game early on this season, but couldn’t nail a bucket with any consistency in the first half.

Illinois Wesleyan would cool off their torrid scoring pace towards the end of the the first half, however not enough to make the contest competitive, as they would head to the locker room up 44-22 at the half. Loras College wouldn’t trail by less than 10 points after the 13 minute mark at the first half.

The second half started much like the first for the Titans, as they continued to add to their lead. Illinois Wesleyan would surge to lead by 29 at the 14:25 mark. Loras would make the game slightly interesting over the next few minutes, dropping their deficit to less than 20. Illinois Wesleyan would again surge ahead over the last few minutes to hold off the Duhawks.

Leading the Titans was Colin Bonnett with 19 points. Trevor Seibring, Alec Bausch and Brady Rose joined Bonnett in double figures.

The win props IWU to 3-0 on the young season, with their next matchup coming Tuesday vs Macmurray College.

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
