Titans use early 3s to roll past MacMurray

BLOOMINGTON – Brady Rose led four Titans in double figures with 15 points as Illinois Wesleyan cruised to an 87-54 win over MacMurray at Shirk Center on Tuesday.

Rose connected on his third three pointer at the 13:36 mark of the first half to give IWU its first double-digit lead at 19-9. He converted 5 of 8 three-point attempts as IWU made 17 of 39 beyond the arc. The 39 attempts ties a school record set vs. Rhodes in Nov. 2014.

Jaylen Beasley added 12 points and a team high seven rebounds as the Titans improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

Beasley’s three pointer late in the first half gave Wesleyan a 59-25 halftime lead.

Thirteen players scored for IWU and 16 saw playing time in the Titans final tuneup before a grueling stretch that begins with road games at No. 8 Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday and No. 13 North Central in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener on Dec. 3.

IWU women fall

The Titan women (1-2) lost their home opener to Wisconsin-Whitewater 66-55. The Warhawks outscored the Titaans 22-11 in the final period after the game was tied through three periods.

Gabrielle Holness paced IWU with 15 points as the Titans connected on 29 percent of their field goal tries.

The Titans leading scorer, Molly McGraw, left the game with an ankle injury in the first half. Her status is unclear.
