SPRINGFIELD – More and more lawmakers in Springfield say they can support the latest proposal from Exelon that would trade job guarantees in Clinton and the Quad Cities for state subsidies.
However, don’t expect a vote until Gov. Bruce Rauner’s worries about the price of power for industrial customers are dealt with.
Exelon Generation Vice President David Fein said the utility has worked over the past few days to address Gov. Rauner’s concerns.
“(The governor’s office) was looking at demand-based rates, they were looking at a longer operating period for the nuclear stations, and they were looking at maintaining competitive rates when it comes to the large energy users in the state of Illinois,” Fein said Tuesday morning inSpringfield.
Exelon’s latest proposal drops demand rate pricing, increases the amount the utility will spend on energy efficiency and guarantees the plants in Clinton and the Quad Cities will stay open for 10 more years.
Fein said there’s still work to be done on the governor’s desire to make sure factories and industrial customers don’t see their bills skyrocket.
“We continue to work with the governor’s office on other aspects with large customers,” Fein said. “Those conversations are ongoing. So there’s probably a little more work to do it that area.”
Lawmakers are scheduled to be at the capitol until Thursday. Fein hopes to reach a final deal by then.
