BLOOMINGTON – The first of what a local group hopes are many regular vigils to promote social justice was held last night in downtown Bloomington.
About 25 to 30 people gathered on the lawn of the Bloomington Center for Performing Arts to promote the protection of civil and human rights and safeguarding of the environment. The vigil was organized by a group calling itself Stand Up for Social Justice, which says it is a grassroots, non-partisan coalition that has the support of Not in our Town, the YWCA and the Social Justice Committee of the Universal Unitarian Church of Bloomington-Normal.
The group plans to hold similar vigils on the second Tuesday of each month.
