BLOOMINGTON – AT&T customers in Bloomington can expect to see their internet speed increase soon.
The company said customers who live east of Hannah Street and south of East Oakland Avenue will be able to use their smartphones and tablets to surf the web faster than ever before. AT&T spokesman Phil Hayes explained that customers will be able to use the upgraded speed for a variety of services.
“It means that Bloomington area residents and business can now enjoy faster mobile speeds, whether they’re watching videos, texting family and friends, or posting to social media,” said Hayes.
The internet speed is expected to be four times faster than 3G. Hayes explained that the service is essentially adding another lane of internet traffic.
“We like to use the analogy that it’s like adding lanes on a freeway,” said Hayes. “When the traffic is the same, if it gets congested, and if you add lanes and keep the same amount of cars out there, you’re going to be able to get to your destination quicker.”
AT&T invested more than $3 billion in its wireless and wireline networks between 2013 and 2015.
