WJBC Forum: Russian Hacking

By Jim Fisher

It’s funny how the biggest news story since the presidential election was how the Russians hacked the American political parties and somehow had influenced the defeat of Hillary Clinton.  Interesting, how then president Obama said that could not happen when the discussion amongst the republican’s side of the election was that the democrats have rigged it. Let’s stop for a minute and look beyond the childish name calling and accusations the political elites were throwing at each other and take a closer look at recent history.

There was a president in Egypt that had strong ties with the United States. He supported the US in the First Gulf War and maintained a strong although cold relationship with Israel.   Suddenly during the Obama administration that Egyptian Government is overthrown and the Muslim Brotherhood takes over. The same Muslim Brotherhood of the Obama administration’s support for political reform in the Middle East and North Africa. Hmm,

I believe there was another regime in North Africa removed by “brotherhood”. One who after Ronald Reagan put him in his place was an asset for the stabilization of that part of the world,Mamore Kaddafi.  And let’s not forget the Benghazi incident. For which we have learned had nothing to do with a video but instead was arms dealing gone wrong for Syrian rebels. Now wait a minute the US secretary of state was Arming Syrianrebels against their president Al Assad?

But the Obama Administration never tried to Influence the politics of other countries did they?

Lets ask the Prime Minister of Israel about the US State Department who paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayers grants to an Israeli group that used the money to build a campaign to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu*

But Did Netanyahu oust all the American Diplomats to retaliate against the American president for doing so? Did the Russian government remove all American diplomats after Obama expelled Russian operatives from the US in retaliation for his accusation of influence on the US election process?. I believe Putin put best when he said; “It is a pity that the President Obama administration finishes its work this way,”

As a Cold War Veteran who lived in the same part of Europe at about the same time as Putin, on the opposite side of “the iron curtain”. It is very difficult for me to say this:  Mr Putin, if you had anything to do with the defeat of Hillary Clinton in this past presidential election… Thank you, Thank you very much.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
