WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin took to the Senate Floor on Tuesday to lash out against President Donald Trump’s executive order limiting travel from several Muslim-majority nations.

“We opened our doors and said the United States of America will set an example to the world when it comes to refugees,” Durbin said. “That defined who we were and who we still should be and now this president wants to walk away from that.”

Over the weekend, Durbin joined Senate colleague Tammy Duckworth in calling on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General to start an independent investigation into what they believe may have been an illegal implementation of President Trump’s executive order.

“All he has is fear, unreasoned fear, unproven fear,” Durbin declared.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
