WJBC Forum: Trump

By Pamela Sweetwood

I honestly thought the impeachment process would begin the day of the inauguration.  I thought between conflicts of interest and Russian involvement in the election, that information was gathered but couldn’t be acted upon until he took office.  I sure hope its coming, sooner rather than later.

The concerns of him profiting off his presidency are more than justified.   It’s fair to presume we haven’t had a president selling Christmas ornaments for $150 each.   You can follow that up with purchases to commemorate the inauguration.

We have yet to see any income taxes or details regarding conflict of interest.   It’s no longer a topic.  He is a master at bombarding the public and press with so much that we cannot delve into any one thing to a substantial degree.  He’s counting on that.  It’s easy to grow tired of it all.

I am happy to see protests continuing.  I hope we don’t become complacent.

If you are concerned that the country is not headed in a positive direction, you may want to consider joining Not in Our Town, one of the existing parties or a new group Resist-Normal that can be found on Meet Up.  Meet Up is a website to meet new people with similar interest.  I mentioned in my last forum I was trying to expand my circle.   There are vegans who have potlucks, non-religious people who meet at a pub, bible study groups, new moms groups, women over 50 hanging out, singles going to dinner and more.

Normal Resist is just forming so I cannot attest to the group yet but I sure like the premise.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
