NORMAL – The Normal Fire Department was able to prevent a fire which had started on the exterior of a home on Suelynn Drive Friday afternoon from spreading to the rest of the house.

The department reported it was called to the residence just before 1:30 p.m. Firefighters found light smoke showing and a fire burning on the back side of the residence. The blaze was fully out about ten minutes later.

The department said fire heavily damaged the wooden deck and the exterior wood siding on the back of the house. Damage is estimated at $35,000.
