John Frederick Hansen, 74, of Normal, passed away at 11:23 a.m., March 8 at his home.

His funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal with Rev. Eric S. Powell officiating.  Interment will be in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, Turtle Lake, Wisconsin.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Tuesday at the church.  Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be directed in memory of Dr. John Hansen to the Department of Chemistry Fund.  Checks should be made out to the Illinois State University Foundation, Campus Box 8000, Normal, Ill. 61790-8000.

John was born March 21, 1942 in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, the son of Frederick John and Goldie Viola Gierhart Hansen.

He is survived by three brothers, William (Joan) Hansen of River Falls, Wisc., David (Barbara) Hansen of Eagan, Minnesota and George (Emily) Hansen of River Falls, Wisc.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Barbara.

John graduated from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls in 1964.  After obtaining his Ph.D. degree from Duke University (1967) in Organic Chemistry, John accepted three different post-doctoral positions (The Ohio State University, University of Notre Dame, and Wayne State University).  He then accepted an Assistant Professorship in Chemistry at Illinois State University in 1972.  In 1980 he did a sabbatical leave at the University of East Anglia in Norwich England.   He advanced to Full Professor of Chemistry in 1995.  At Illinois State University, 20 graduate students worked with him to obtain their MS degrees and he also mentored over 50 undergraduates. During this time, he published 39 publications mostly in the area of oxazoline compound synthesis and characterization.  His first love was always teaching and he truly enjoyed teaching organic chemistry at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.  John retired from ISU in 2014. In retirement, he continued to be an avid user of the Constitution Trail.

Deniese Tovrea

Deniese Roach Palmer Tovrea, 53 of Bloomington, passed away on March 6 at 10:49 a.m. at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

Deniese’s service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Nazarene Church in Bloomington with Pastor Bob Hasselbring officiating. Following the service interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be held one  hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to the family in c/o Jessica Palmer.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Deniese was born on Sept. 8, 1963 in Chicago, the daughter of Marvin and Darlene (Wallace) Roach. She married Donnie Tovrea on April 16,

1996 in Pontiac. He preceded her on March 12, 2015.

She is survived by her mother Darlene Roach of Florida, her children:

Jennifer Wallgren of Kewanee, Dustin Palmer of Bradford, Jessica Palmer of Bloomington, Candace Palmer and Destiny Palmer both of Kewanee. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, sister: Teresa Boye and Brian Roach both of Florida.

She was preceded by her father and one son Joshua Roach.

Deniese was a member of the First Nazarene Church of Bloomington, she worked as an LPN for 23 years at various hospitals, she was an avid football fan especially a Brett Favre fan and she enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a Kyle Bush fan.

Deniese was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all of them.

Dolores SironDolores Siron

Dolores Ann Siron, 89, of Bloomington, passed away at 1:40 a.m., March 9 at Heritage Health in Normal.

Her funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington with Rev. Jeff Windy officiating.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass, Wednesday at the church.  Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peace Meal at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, 915 Lincoln Ave., Charleston, Ill. 61920-3005 or Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington.

Dolores was born Aug. 16, 1927 in Cullom, the daughter of John C. and Lula Diebel Hahn.  She married Lorin “Dale” Siron on Feb. 15, 1947 at Cullom.  He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2014.

Surviving are nine children, Lorin (Liz) Siron Jr. of Mary Esther, Fla., Arthur Cameron (Sandra) Siron of Danvers, Barbara (John) Rokos of Bloomington, Cecil (Patti) Siron of Jacksonville, Fla., Lester (Deb) Siron of Bloomington, Amy Morris of Denver, Colo., Julie (Mike) Jecusco of Connecticut, Robert (Sheryl) Siron of Bloomington, and David (Nancy) Siron of Dallas, Texas; twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Kinkade of Missouri and Theresa Franey of Fairbury.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Siron, two brothers and one sister.

Dolores graduated from Cullom High School and worked at GTE for 22 years, retiring in 1987 as a supervisor.  She was a life member of VFW Post 454 Ladies Auxiliary in Bloomington and a sixty plus year member of the “Ladies Card Club.”  She enjoyed gardening, reading and collecting dolls and spoons.  After retirement, Dolores and Dale enjoyed the time they spent traveling together.
