De Los Reyes named MVC Player of the Week

NORMAL – After beginning league play with a .700 average, Jordan de los Reyes was named the MVC’s softball Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday. De los Reyes’ honor is her first and the third for the Redbirds this season.

Jordan de los Reyes opened conference play with a bang, going 7-for-10 with a 1.100 slugging percentage. The senior led the Redbirds with seven RBI and seven hits during the week. She failed to strikeout while being walked four times at Indiana State. On Saturday alone, de los Reyes went 6-for-8 with three runs and seven RBI in the Redbirds first conference sweep since 2015.

Additionally, de los Reyes slugged her 41st career home run against Indiana State to now sit only two away from the third-place spot in the Illinois State record book. The catcher logged 13 putouts with two assists on the week. De los Reyes’ stellar weekend improved her season average to .355 while leading the team with a .671 slugging percentage.

Evansville’s Morgan Florey earned the Pitcher of the Week honor and Southern Illinois’ Susie Baranski was named the MVC’s Newcomer of the Week.

The Illinois State softball team resumes play on Saturday at Wichita State for a three-game series against the Shockers.
