Gillespie has spent the past two seasons as head coach at Lewis University, where the Flyers compiled a record of 51-12. She was the head coach at Benedictine University for the previous four seasons.
She played four seasons under legendary coach Kay Yow at North Carolina State from 1996-99, winning four letters and serving three seasons as captain and helping guide the Wolfpack to a Final Four appearance as the starting point guard in 1998.
The Redbirds plan to introduce Gillespie in the Hancock Stadium Club at a news conference at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
