Marilyn Jane Layten

Marilyn Jane Layten, 91, of Bloomington, passed away at 3:59 a.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Sugar Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Normal.

Her funeral will be at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Mary’ s Catholic Church in Downs with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Wapella. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2017 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Downs.

Marilyn was born July 29, 1925 in Downs, the daughter of Harold and Anna Ryan Roberts. She married Lawrence E. Layten on January 25, 1947 in Downs. He survives.

She is also survived by a son, Dale (Karen) Layten of Bloomington; a brother, James Roberts of Jackson, MI; three sisters, Alyse “Toots” Roberts of Bloomington, Jackie Hoover of McHenry and Judy Busey of Mahomet.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jerry Lee Layten; a brother, Harold L. “Bud” Roberts; a sister, Dwyn Harris; brothers-in-law, Kent Harris and Dick Hoover and a sister-in-law, Maureen Roberts.

Marilyn was a 1944 graduate of Downs High School, enjoyed dancing and was a good pool player. Marilyn was a true farm wife and always enjoyed helping her husband around the farm.
