PEORIA – Gov. Bruce Rauner brought his bid for reelection to Peoria on Tuesday.

The governor made a campaign stop at Brewer’s Distributing to talk about the importance of small businesses. He told news partner WMBD-TV lawmakers need to come together to help future growth of small business.

“We can’t only do a tax hike,” Rauner said. “What we’ve got to do is create the structural changes to help grow and grow more jobs and the key to that is persistence and the key to that is getting the people here in Peoria and around Illinois to come together,” Rauner said.

Rauner said that starts with a balanced budget. Opponents of Rauner accuse him of leaving the capitol to campaign instead of working toward a balanced budget.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
