SPRINGFIELD – You can help in the fight against child abuse.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services said if you see something, say something. Spokeswoman Veronica Resa said you should report any concerns about child abuse to the child abuse hotline. From there in about 24 hours a social worker will reach out for help and often the first step isn’t to take a child out of a home.

“What we are going to do is hopefully find the family services, help them stay united through supporting them with such things as parenting classes or anger management classes,” Resa said. “We even have classes to help them with finances.”

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
