NORMAL – One of the men looking to challenge Gov. Bruce Rauner in 2018 spent Wednesday speaking to students tonight at Normal Community High School.

State Sen. Daniel Biss (D-Evanston) took questions about himself, his politics, and the state of the government. He said his conversation with the students is an example of why he’s running for governor.

“These students are engaged and smart, and knowledgeable and curious,” he said afterwards. “And number two, they want to see that they have the power the change the community. They want to know that if they fight for something, there’s a chance it’s going to happen.”

Students and teachers asked Biss about his thoughts on everything from the state budget and recreational marijuana, to violence in Chicago.

Biss is one of six candidates who are seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
